From The Archives: A Seaon of Fire

This sketch comes from recent playtime in Photoshop with the wonderful paintbrushes there.  I get lost in them sometimes.

From the Archives: Spirit Mask

Here is an older sketch of a Spirit Mask.  I was attempting at that time to pursue a more tribal quality within my work.

From the Archives: Young Saturn

An older sharpie sketch of Saturn as a young man. Although this sketch isn't visually the same as the other sketches from the Sickles Set, I feel it deals with the same themes.  All the sketches in the set were created in the same time frame.

From the Archives: Pharoah of Sickles

The Prince of Sickles transforms into the Pharaoh of Sickles.  The ends of the separated sickles have become completely polarized.  His feet, the symbols of grounding, have taken on the color of temperance, light violet.  Significant color changes indicate a new understanding and a change of element.  The wings have become more symbolic than functional as the pharaoh steps out of air and into water.

From the Archives: Prince of Sickles Variation

Here is the Prince of Sickles again in a new position and poised to take action.  The different ends of his sickle staff have polarized in color.  Before, the sickles had been clear and blue tinted.

From the Archives: The Prince of Sickles

Here is a sharpie sketch from a period of time when my superhero work was bleeding together with my occult symbolist work.

With this post, From the Archives will be moving to a monthly frequency.

From the Archives: Flower of Release

Here is a sketch done in a transitional style from an older more abstract graphic style moving towards a more representative style.  This is also an exploration of symbolism within both those styles.

From the Archives: Natures

A sketch from many years ago expressing different aspects of my emotional nature.

I'm bringing the From the Archives posts back into rotation but with a monthly cycle.

From the Archives: Revelations

Although there is upwards of five to seven years between these two pieces, I am posting them together.  The piece with the ball was created first and the second piece with the spiral was created in contemplation of the first.  My original thought with these was an animation sequence.  However animation has never had quite the pull for me so they remain these static images.

This will be the last From the Archives post for awhile.  I'm restructuring My blogs and trying to determine the best place to post my different kinds of artwork.

From the Archives: She Sings

There was a period of time in the late 90's that a majority of my artwork was designed to be viewed under ultraviolet light.  I was fascinated by the intensity and contrast of color available.  I created many pieces of artwork during that time, many of which I no longer possess.

From the Archives: Her Hair

This was a graphite sketch I did from an image of Anna Paquin.  I think it was in an issue of Rolling Stone or some such.  I do not recall.  I altered the hair a bit.  I think at the time I was imagining her as the base for a super heroine who had some kind of tentacled shadow power that usually manifested in her hair.

From the Archives: Superhero Cape Study

A quick superhero cape study from my traveling sketchbook.  I probably did this one at work on lunch break or some such.  Regardless of Edna Mode's warnings, if I could fly, I'd wear a cape because it would look so friggin' cool.

From the Archives: Beard Sketch

This was a beard study for a comic book story about a man trapped on an island.  I ended up with a different style, but this was a strong second.

From The Archives: The Veil

Here's some more recent brush play in Adobe Photoshop.  This one harkens back to an older physical style I've used before with Berol Prismacolor pencils.  However this piece has more of a watercolor feel to it due to the brushes I used to create it.

From The Archives: Madame O. Sketch

Here's a more recent image of Madame O. from playtime in Adobe Photoshop.  Everytime I think I've found all the things to enjoy about Photoshop, there's another filter or another set of brushes I've never used before.  :-)

From The Archives: Vison Symbols

Here's a more recent sketch I created while playing with brushes in Adobe Photoshop.  You may see more in this kind of style in the future.  I am very fond of the painterly style that these brushes allow.

From the Archives: Hawk

This sketch is a good example of the strange amalgamation of my spiritual explorations and my interest in super heroes.  Hawk was a totem that came to me frequently.

From The Archives: Grasshopper

Here is a psychedelic sketch of a grasshopper man.  Surprisingly, Grasshopper was one of the most difficult totems I ever worked with.  It was often like sitting with a flame under my seat, never knowing exacting when it was the best time to jump.
