I thought perhaps you might find the work of Ron Fedkiw, an applied mathematician from Stanford, interesting (http://physbam.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/). From his website it would seem he concentrates on applied topology! Some really cool stuff . . . Also, I’ve often wondered if you have ever thought of incorporating fractals into your mandala work. I use mandalas consistently in both my mantra yoga and my meditation practice; one of my all time favorite mandalas was a portion of the Julia set I cut from a book and pasted to a piece of foam-board! Melinda Green has studied the sets in question with what she calls the BuddhaBrot technique and has developed some images similar to the one I used to use (http://superliminal.com/fractals/).

I was not familiar with the work of Ron Fedkiw before now. Thank You. :-) I haven't actively added Fractals into my work thus far, but now that you've mentioned it, I may begin to.

My entire creative process within Photoshop is a kind of fractal image making. All of my Mandalas and Abstract imagery are created by shrinking, enlarging, rotating the same image until other elements begin to appear.

Thanks also for the links - the rotating Buddhagram is wonderful!
