Weekly Mandala: The Fire of Winter

Under snow and ice and white
the earth boils and burns.
Only its cold face sleeps.
Behind its languid eyes,
the toil of a dream spits like a roiling furnace.
Deep beneath snow laden tree and frozen soil,
bone cold rock and glacial mountain,
the fire of the sun spins and uncoils
pushing itself out towards birth.

It will rise, volcanic, and none will bar its roaring ascent.
It will spread its great flaming wings,
this phoenix of spring,
its fiery fingers unlocking the prison cages of ice and cold.
Its intent will penetrate all things
with the scorching soul fire,
the endless future, the all tomorrow.
It will rage and rock,
and all our past dead dreams will crumble in its wake.
It will burn us all.

Out of that frozen fear,
and out of that wintry death sleep,
spring will rise up.
The gift of forever,
a world aflame with the spirit of life.
